Meet Our Team: The People Who Make Our Community Special
Cathy Ehley, 20 Years of Leadership and Care
Some people quietly shape a place over time—bringing consistency, compassion, and a deep sense of purpose to everything they do. At The Cedars of Austin, Cathy Ehley is one of those people.
This summer marks Cathy’s 20th anniversary with us. While her title is Dementia Counselor and Activity Director, what she brings to our community goes far beyond any job description. For two decades, Cathy has supported residents and families with steady leadership, deep knowledge, and an unwavering commitment to care.
She joined The Cedars in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation and a mission to improve quality of life for older adults. Since then, she has continued her professional development with advanced certifications in memory care. Cathy is certified through the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals (NCCAP) and has completed specialized training from both LeadingAge Minnesota and the Alzheimer’s Association. She’s also an active member of MnSWAP, NCCAP, and NAAP, always looking for ways to enhance her work.
But Cathy’s contributions aren’t measured in certifications alone. It’s the way she connects with residents, families, and staff that truly defines her role. Whether she’s guiding someone through the challenges of dementia or helping a resident engage in a favorite activity, Cathy approaches each situation with patience, clarity, and care.
Families often turn to her during uncertain, emotional times. She listens, offers guidance, and helps them better understand what their loved one is experiencing. Cathy has a gift for making complex situations feel more manageable, offering both emotional support and practical insight.
Even while navigating personal challenges, Cathy shows up each day with positivity and purpose. Her dedication was formally recognized in 2014, when she was named Caregiver of the Year by LeadingAge Minnesota—an award that reflects the lasting impact she’s made in the lives of so many.
Outside of work, Cathy lives in Austin with her husband and two children. They enjoy camping, outdoor sports, and movie nights together.
After 20 years, Cathy remains a steady and inspiring presence at The Cedars. Her leadership and compassion have shaped the experience of countless residents and families. We’re proud to celebrate this milestone with her, and even prouder to have her as part of our team.
